Three FINS meets, ice cream/movie night

School’s out! Let’s dance! … And eat ice cream! And watch a movie! Friday is all about celebrating the end of the school year! Get to the pool at 6 pm for the ice cream social. We’ll spin music from this century and invite all to enjoy some delicious ice cream treats! Then, grab a seat in the Pavilion for a screening of “The Greatest Showman” starring Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, Zac Efron and Zendaya. Worth noting, Friday is a 10 pm closing night!

  • Ice Cream and music — 6-8 pm — We need your help. VOLUNTEER
  • “Greatest Showman” — 8-10 pm — The Pavilion is reserved at 7 pm.

Pool use during FINS home meets … When RCP hosts a swim meet, the entire pool is always closed for regular use. These events involve a lot of people, both from our pool and from the pools that come to compete against us. Parking, bathhouse use and seating all are at capacity. Lifeguards are not in place to help monitor recreational swimming. Every space is needed to put on these events, including the baby pool area which often is where we set up a hospitality zone.

When the dive team hosts a meet, we’ll close the diving well and may need to reserve the surrounding area for judges and dive families.

For this week, we have three home meets which affect pool use. All of these times are estimates:

  • Wednesday night, June 12 — B Meet against CCRA: The pool closes around 4:30 pm.
  • Saturday morning, June 14 — A Meet against Somerset: The pool opens around Noon or as soon as the meet is over.
  • Sunday afternoon, June 15 — Dive Meet against Glenwood: The diving well is reserved at 2:30 pm. until the meet ends.

Pasta party for swim/dive … Speaking of the FINS, the weekly Friday night pasta continues this week in the grill area. This team-building event is always a great way to cap off a hard week of practice. While the buffet is only meant for FINS (swim and dive) members, pool patrons can still use the grills while the party is going on.

Early bird starts next week … Lap swimmers (adults only) are invited to get in some early-morning exercise every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (6:30-8 am) between June 17-August 23. Please sign in when you arrive and be prepared to share lanes. As for the morning Masters Classes, as of press time, I’m unsure of the status but will fill you in when I hear anything!

Hours of operation … Now that MCPS school is out, starting on Monday, June 17, the pool is open for general use most days from 10 am – 9 pm (see above for exceptions).

Volleyball seminar was a smash! … A hearty thank you to Emma, Audrey, Fiona and Ruby for hosting the volleyball seminar last Thursday. The BCC athletes did a great job introducing the sport and explaining proper technique and strategy. If you weren’t able to attend, there’s a second one on Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 pm. This is for kids AND adults so if you’ve always wanted to learn, come on down to the court!

Trivia team takes the lead … Finally, here’s a tip of the cap to “Milton’s Pandas,” winners of the first Trivia Night last Thursday. We look forward to seeing them try to make it two in a row at the next round on Saturday, July 13!
